Topic: Climate Change Science
Guest Speaker: Dr. Christopherson is Professor Emeritus of Geography, American River College (1970-2000)
Over the next several months the Mother Lode Chapter of the Air and Waste Management Association will be sponsoring a series of timely discussions on climate change. We will be kicking off the series with a presentation by Professor Robert Christopherson who will be presenting photographs and results from his latest of ten scientific expeditions to the Arctic to document climate change as it is occurring. Future meetings tentatively scheduled for later this year through the spring of next year will focus on local responses to climate change in the Sacramento business community as well as in regional and state government. We invite members and non-members to these forums to help understand climate change issues and to foster discussions about how these issues can be best addressed.
Our first meeting will be on October 2, 2008 at Scott's Seafood, 545 Munroe Street, Sacramento.
Please join us for a fascinating evening with author and teacher, Dr. Robert Christopherson. Dr. Christopherson is Professor Emeritus of Geography, American River College (1970-2000). He is the author of several leading textbooks in the field of geography and has spoken across the US and Canada to hundreds of colleges, groups, and at professional meetings.
Since 2003, Dr. Christopherson has made ten scientific expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions to document the dramatic changes in the Polar Regions caused by global warming. From these expeditions, Dr. Christopherson and his co-author, Rinie van Meurs are writing a new book titled "On Melting Ice, The Fate of Our Polar Bears." In his presentation, Dr. Christopherson will present recent photos and observations from his June 2008 trip.
A question and answer session will allow all to participate and ask their most pressing questions about this very timely topic.
